The 7th Grade boys basketball team won a pair of games against Portland last night. The B Team started off with a hot start and they never looked back. The GL cagers jumped out all over the Raiders 22-0 to end the first quarter, and kept up the pressure all game long, defeating Portland 55-12. All 11 players scored in the game. Carter Grace and Alex Cornman led the way for Grand Ledge with 13 points each, and AJ Skinner handled the work on the defensive end of the floor, leading the team in steals and deflections. Coach Hansbarger commented after the B game. "I'm extremely proud of this group. It is difficult to continue to play hard when you have such a sizable lead, but these kids never let up! Favorite stat of the game? Only 5 turnovers for our squad the entire game! So sharp in this game. Couldn't be more pleased."
The second game of the evening brought more of the same. The Grand Ledge A Team won their respective game 47-25, behind leading scorer Elyjah Hendricks and his game-high 15 points. Micah Brown added 12, and Brandon Freeman scored 10. The lead was never in doubt, especially after a big 19-point third quarter. "I'm happy for the boys they got the win," Coach Hansbarger stated. "They've been reeling a bit as of late, and a win boosts their confidence. Like the B Team, the A Team played hard from start to finish, and Micah definitely helped out a lot, stepping up in this game."
The Comets have a quick turnaround, as they will be making-up a game that was postponed due to the inclement weather on Monday, playing at McDonald Middle School today against the East Lansing Trojans.
