On Monday, the 8th grade A team was back in action after a week off from playing. They took on Portland in a single game due to Portland only having one team.

     The Lady Comets came out fast in the 1st quarter on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. They outscored Portland in the 1st quarter 18-1. “I was really happy with the way we started the game, Coach Hernandez said.” The 2nd quarter was similar to the 1st quarter with the Lady Comets playing solid defense and outscoring Portland 11-0 and going into halftime up 29-1. The 3rd quarter started with Portland coming out with a lot of energy and scoring two quick baskets. After a timeout, Grand Ledge held them scoreless the rest of the quarter and outscoring Portland 6-4. The Lady Comets finished the game strong in the 4th quarter by winning the quarter 7-2. “For as little practice time that we have had due to the snow days, this team has improved and I am excited to see this team grow over the next 3 weeks. I am also happy with the energy, effort, and toughness we showed. These are three things we talk about every day in practice, Coach Hernandez stated.”

     The Lady Comets were led in scoring by Ellie Baynes who finished the game with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 8 steals, and 3 assists. Ava Scanlon also chipped in 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists.

     Both teams will be back in action next Wednesday and Thursday with Wednesday’s games at Eaton Rapids and Thursday’s games will be played at home against DeWitt. The B game starts at 4:30 with the A game following about 10 minutes after the B game concludes both days.
